     Take a look around Spokane’s parks and you’ll see the tangible difference that the Spokane Parks Foundation has made. Parks are where memories are created and kept. Here’s just a sample of the hundreds of projects we’ve funded over the years:
 

On Going Projects

  • Providing swimming suits for hundreds of youth who needed proper swim attire in order to swim in our neighborhood pools. We also provided scholarships for swimming lessons.

  • Continuing to make more Doggie Bag Dispensers to be installed in various Spokane Parks.

  • Supporting Reforest Spokane and The Susie Forest.

  • Providing scholarships for low-income senior citizens and people with disabilities for activities in the Therapeutic Recreation Program. Providing sports equipment for disabled youth.

  • Underwriting of the annual Free Labor Day Concert by the Spokane Symphony in Comstock Park. This concert is enjoyed by thousands of persons from throughout the community.

  • Providing scholarship monies for the numerous programs offered by the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department, allowing all children and adults to participate in the numerous recreational and educational classes that are offered.

2008

  • Paid for 170 trees that were planted in Spokane Parks as part of the Reforest Spokane Program and The Susie Forest.

2007

  • Installed sixteen Doggie Bag Dispensers in various Spokane Parks.

  • Partnered with the NW Museum of Arts & Culture to celebrate the centennial of the 1908 Spokane "System of Parks and Parkways” plan created by the Olmsted Brothers Landscape Architects; reprinting in its entirety, including maps, drawings, and photographs for the exhibition at the MAC.

  • Funded a projector for Teen Nights at the Northeast Community Center.

2006

  • Helped fund a collaboration between Rotary/Rotaract of Spokane and parents of special needs children for a Universal Playground to reduce barriers to physical activity for special needs kids. This playground will be located at Mission Park, will be available for all children to enjoy.

  • A grant paid for half of the new seats in the IMAX, replacing the original seats from Expo ‘74.

  • Provided money to Mid-City Concern/Meals on Wheels Downtown Center for the purchase of a new commercial stove. The Center serves over 100 meals a day to Spokane’s highest-risk, lowest income seniors.

2005

  • Provided Funds for the Corbin Senior Activity Center to upgrade their computer system allowing them to better keep in touch with their members as well as to fundraiser.

  • Provided underwriting for the Spokane Symphony for their Annual Labor Day Concert at Comstock Park.

  • Granted funds to the Downtown C.O.P.S and Dept of Corrections for bike patrols to increase security and safety in parks including People’s Park, 4th Avenue Skateboard Park and Riverfront Park.
     

 2004

  • Restoration of the Carousel at Riverfront Park.

  • Provided funds towards the project to rebuild the Riverfront Park entrance.

  • Peaceful Valley Community Center Renovation.

  • Purchased a water slide for Witter Pool.

  • Made numerous repairs to Riverfront Park’s Ice Palace’s Penalty Ice Box and Zamboni engine.

  • Granted funds for the Riverfront Park Drinking Fountain.

  • Gave seed money for the Northeast Youth Center’s Learning Center.

  • Construction of the Castle Overlook at the Corbin and Moore-Turner Heritage Gardens renovation project at the Corbin Art Center.

  • Purchased kayaks for the touring kayak program.

  • Made a major contribution to the Centennial Trail/Sandifur Bridge Project.
     

Other Projects

  • Repainted the Red Wagon in Riverfront Park.

  • Provided seed money for the Urban Forestry Tree Inventory Program.

  • Installed a walking trail for the blind at Finch Arboretum.

  • Built the Erna Bert Nelson Rose Arbor at Manito Park.

  • Made a major contribution to the Southside Senior Activity Center New Facility.
