When my husband and I moved to Spokane we took 3 1/2 days to drive across the country. By the time we took our exit off of I-90 and turned up the hill to our new home we were filled with anticipation…and a strong desire to get out of the car!
As we drove up the hill, the street was lined with mature trees whose branches spread, turning the street into more of an avenue or promenade. It was a warm welcome that we truly appreciated.
The City of Spokane is one of trees, with a small section in the Parks and Recreation Department devoted to Urban Forestry. That dedicated group works diligently to ensure that our city trees are healthy, that trees are added whenever possible and wherever appropriate. We all know the aesthetic value of those trees – this article highlights the economic value as well.
