Frances Martin first began painting when she was 12 in her homeland of Taiwan. She started taking lessons from the Taiwanese watercolorist, Master Paul Kuo, and fell in love with the art form. When she came to Spokane in 1974 as part of the Taiwanese delegation to Expo ’74, she fell in love and returned to live here.
She has continued painting ever since, and particularly enjoys painting scenes from Manito Park’s Japanese Garden, which reminds her of her homeland. She also regularly paints various parts of Meadowood Golf Course, which is near her home in Liberty Lake.
Frances usually takes photos of a location she wishes to paint, and then completes her work inside her art studio at home – from which she has an amazing view of Liberty Lake.
Thank you Frances for sharing your work with us!
