Make A Splash In A Kid's Life 2015

October 6, 2015

Make A Splash In A Kid’s Life had great success in 2015!

Thanks to our donors and partner organizations we were able to get kids into the pools all summer long through pool passes and six free swim days.

Make A Splash in A Kid’s Life is a program of the Foundation, focusing on getting kids in our communities’ public pools and providing the swim lessons they need to be safe. This year-round effort pays off each summer when thousands of kids – who would otherwise be locked out of the pools – enjoy the time-honored rite of childhood…afternoons at the neighborhood pool.

The Native Project Enjoying the Splash

Makayla Desjarlais, prevention services and Indian Youth Summer Program coordinator, expressed gratitude for the MAS program stating, “We would not have been able to go to the pools at all this summer if it wasn’t for the generous MAS program - we just do not have enough resources.”

The Indian Youth Summer Program is a five week education-based summer camp that consists of five subject areas such as math, reading, science and prevention. Although this program is educational by design, The Native Project still wants to provide the summer fun that every kid should be able to enjoy and to reward their youth with fun summer activities. But with limited resources this is challenging.

Our MAS program is able to help The Native Project achieve this goal. After the kids are done with their lecture for the day, they head down to the local public pool. This has been such a hugely successful part of their summer camp and parents, children, families and The Native Project staff have expressed how thankful they are that this program exists.

“Thanks to the Spokane Parks Foundation and the Make A Splash In A Kid’s Life program we were able to
have the resources to throw some fun into summer!”- The Native Project

Over the past 5 years we have accomplished amazing things that were made possible by you, your friends and neighbors, and your local businesses. Make A Splash In A Kid’s Life will continue to keep kids in the pools, and not watching from outside the fence simply because their families couldn’t afford lessons, a suit or the entrance fee.

MAS BY THE NUMBERS:
