We are thrilled to be able to expand our traditional Make A Splash In A Kid's Life program to include not only Free Swim Fridays all summer long, but also a Free Swim Clinic on Saturday, June 11.
As Kevin Eddy, our Make A Splash In A Kid's Life chair, says, "We feel that it is vital that we teach kids at least basic water safety skills. We want kids to enjoy the pools through our pool passes and free swim days, and we want to help them be safe while swimming.”
The Free Swim Clinic will be held on Saturday, June 11 at Witter Pool. Lessons will start at 12:30 pm and will be available on a first-come first-served basis. We are partnering with the Spokane Waves Aquatic Team, Spokane Area Swimming and Coeur d'Alene Area Swimming to provide swim instruction.
Free Swim Fridays will kick-off on June 17 with open swim at Cheney's pool, and continue each Friday throughout the summer, ending with the evening open swim at Park Road pool in Spokane Valley.
When asked why the Foundation is adding free swims this summer, Heather Beebe-Stevens, Foundation executive director, responds, "We've added the free swims into our program mix, because we know that no matter how many passes we distribute, there will always be kids who can't get into the pools because they just don't have the money. We hope that these swims help us reach those kids."

All of the expansion of the program this year is made possible thanks to a grant from the Walmart Foundation.
