Jessica Sems is an amazing young woman - everyone who meets her knows that. We have been fortunate to have her as part of the Spokane Parks Foundation for the last two years. As she gets ready to graduate, I thought it was time to for you to get to know her a bit better.
Why were you interested in working for the Parks Foundation?
I fell in love with the community of Spokane. Even on its worst snow days, beauty still shines through the nature and its people. I wanted to work for an organization that felt the same for Spokane as I do. The Spokane Parks Foundation is the premier foundation that advocates for the health and growth of the Spokane community. Not only does the foundation advocate for the health of the regions parks but it advocates for the health of the people as well. The Spokane Parks Foundation focuses on Spokane’s community as a whole, and that is what drew me to want to work for the organization.
What is the best thing that you’ve done at the Foundation?
The best thing I have done was securing a Rotary grant for the Foundation. This was a great learning experience as well as it was beneficial for the organization. Knowing this grant goes on to help kids get into the pools, who otherwise would be locked out, makes my work that much more rewarding.
What do you want to do after college?
I want to continue to live in Spokane. I want to find a job that still focuses on the community aspect of this region. I am currently interested in going into the field of human resources, and hope that my love for the Spokane community will align with my future employer’s values as well.
